What will the Cell Phone Marketplace be like in 2010

What will the Cell Phone Marketplace be like in 2010?
It is nearly impossible these days to watch a television program without seeing at least one television commercial about the newest model of a particular brand of cell phone or a commercial touting the merits of a particular cellular carrier. The cellular phone industry is in full battle mode, and every company wants to come out on top with the largest share of the marketplace.
Several years ago, technological advances in cell phones ruled the roost when it came to leading the cell phone market. The companies which created and manufactured the cell phones that were the most feature-rich and the most technologically advanced were, by default, the market leaders. However, this seems to have changed over the last couple of years.   Take a look at the most recent models of used Blackberry cell phones and used AT&T cell phones, for example. These cell phones all contain up-to-date technology and features. So do the most recent models of used Verizon cell phones and used Sprint cell phones and many other brands of used cell phones. Many of these phones are available at discounted prices online as sites that are branded such as att.com as well as smaller companies including dotcells.com. The point here is that even models of cell phones that are a year or two old are not behind in technology. So, this goes to show that cell phone companies can no longer rely on the latest tech advances in order to grab the lion's share of the market.
So, then, what are cell phone companies going to do in order to try to increase their sales and become market leaders? Many industry experts agree that companies may begin trying some of these types of trends:
  * Companies may begin offering deals that include unlimited nationwide phone service, unlimited data, unlimited internet and unlimited email for in all-inclusive monthly flat rate.
* More companies may offer packages that do not require a credit check or contract. Consumers no longer want to be tied down to a contract that imposes penalties for changes-and they are tired of having to prove to be credit-worthy for the basic necessity of a cell phone.
* More companies will emphasize their 'greenness' in order to gain a larger market share. Because so many consumers care deeply about the environment, this could be a strong strategy for companies like AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.
Currently, there are about 3 billion cell phone users around the world. It is expected that many of the next billion users will come from emerging markets-which is why many cell phone companies have been developing cell phones which are not dependent upon electricity. Solar cell phones may pave the way for people in emerging markets to become cell phone users. In addition, buying used cell phones from sites like DotCells as mentioned above will reduce the amount of electronic waste.   In 2010, however, it is expected that many consumers will continue to rely on used cell phones. Used Sprint cell phones, used Blackberry cell phones, used Verizon cell phones, and used AT&T cell phones can be purchased for much less than the latest models through EBay, Craigslist, and other outlets like DotCells. Less expensive cell phones, such as cheap Verizon cell phones, may also prove to be popular in the upcoming year. Since many consumers are still quite budget-minded at the moment, it is likely that they will opt to save money by purchasing used or cheap cell phones.
