Dell kills Windows XP

Tinman Dell has finally driven the aged Windows XP to a Berlin forest and discretely shot it in the back of the head before burying it in a shallow grave.
It had been a long time coming. Dell was loyal to the Microsoft Don Steve Ballmer, but when he ordered the hit on XP, Dell refused to execute the workhorse.
On October 22, Microsoft has ordered that PC makers stop offering "factory downgrades" in their current computer ranges, which means that Windows 7 will be the OS of choice.
However Dell has decided to stop the XP option by late September which is earlier than anyone else.
According to the outfit's website, Dell will stop offering XP as an option for customers starting this month in preparation for next month's deadline.
It will be good news for Microsoft which has wanted to eliminate XP from new PCs in favour of its newer operating systems.

After the public fumed Redmond continued supplying XP in netbooks and some other models, but back in April 2008, the company did make clear that Oct. 22 was end of the line for the factory-installed downgrade option.
Dell says its corporate customers will continue to have the option for XP beyond October 22 through the company's Custom Factory Integration service. "Otherwise, customers who order new machines with Windows 7 Professional or higher can run XP applications in Windows XP mode," Dell said.
