Evolution of the iPod
The tiny, white gadget had a 5 GB hard drive, 160×128 pixel LCD screen, and put “1,000 songs in your pocket” for $399. (See video below of Steve Jobs introducing the iPod for the first time.) The innovative design was light years ahead of its time, and the iPod has continued to evolve since.
We’ve seen new models introduced - iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, iPod Touch - with better screens, more storage, and a boatload of features we never dreamed about nearly a decade ago.
On April 9, 2007, Apple said it had sold 100 million iPods, making it the fastest selling music player in history. And the momentum hasn’t stopped. At Apple’s recent music event in San Francisco, Jobs was on hand to announce new iPod Shuffles, iPod Nanos, and iPod Touches.
With Apple’s replenished iPod lineup, we take a look at how far the iPod has come in less than a decade.
